Talking safely online28-09-2018 | 15:30:29 | No Comments

Over the last couple of weeks in Y6, our online safety focus has been ‘Talking Safely Online’.

All the children were given a ‘Talking Safely Online’ checklist to take home and share with parents/carers (like the one you can view below).

Please take some time to discuss this checklist with your child at home.

Litter Picking for the BBC Clean Start Project21-09-2018 | 15:22:10 | 1 Comment

It’s true – not all heroes wear capes; some don wellies and gloves and arm themselves with litter pickers and plastic bags!

We are so proud of our Y6 pupils who went out into their community and really made a difference this afternoon.

Thank you to our parent helpers too – you are all absolute stars!

And finally, a big WELL DONE to Mrs Bolton for making it all happen. If you missed it, Mrs Bolton (supported by 6KH) made an appearance on BBC Radio Stoke this morning (at about 10.30am). I’m sure you will be able to listen on catch up if you are interested!

Loudmouth Theatre Visit14-09-2018 | 15:36:21 | No Comments

This afternoon, the Loudmouth Theatre group came to deliver a performance and workshop with Y6 about safe relationships called ‘Helping Hands‘. Helping Hands is a sensitive theatre in education programme that helps protect children through an understanding of positive relationships.

It was a fantastic afternoon: the children were thoroughly engaged by the superb actors and we were also very proud of the contributions made by our pupils (who behaved impeccably). Well done Y6!

Weekly spellings14-09-2018 | 15:30:40 | No Comments

Year 6 are given ten spellings to learn every week. During the week in school, we will explore any rules and patterns associated with those particular words and we encourage the children to continue this as part of their homework rather than simply memorising the words for in preparation for the test on a Friday.

The reasons for this are:

  • to deepen the children’s understanding of the spelling patterns/rules so that they can spell words with increased accuracy in their writing beyond the week of the test;
  • apply their knowledge to similar words that they haven’t practised for the test
  • extend their vocabulary in spoken and written English.

Spellings are uploaded weekly to Spelling City and the Y6 blog. THe link for Spelling City is below:

Below you can find a copy of a QR code which also takes you to Spelling City. The children were all given a paper copy of this today and asked to stick them in their spelling books.

Please ensure that your child brings their spelling books in to school every Friday.
